Saturday Scones // Linden

With the new year comes new goals and this year was no different from any other. One of my goals is to eat healthier and try to eat less sugar and treats. These scones are definitely a treat but everything in moderation right?! My oldest begs for these every Saturday morning.... definitely a family favorite.
This is what you will need:
1 3/4 Cup flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2 TB sugar
8 TB room temp butter
1/2 C dried blueberries or cranberries
1/2 C. white choc chips
2/3 Cup buttermilk
Pre-heat oven to 400
Mix dry ingredients. Add your softened butter and buttermilk. Mix until everything is incorporated. Add and mix in dried fruit and choc chips.
Spray scone pan with cooking spray and fill with your batter. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until lightly golden brown. Mine usually go for about 18 min.  Let cool and drizzle glaze on top.
Glaze:
1 Cup powdered sugar
1 TB milk
slivered almonds (optional)
Enjoy!

sunday at the market

oh how we love visitors!! especially when it's grandpa brent and grandma janny!! grandparent visits are the best, because it means miles gets an endless supply of hugs, kisses, tickles and attention (which he loves) and it usually means that brandon and i get a date!! a rare and sacred occasion, indeed.

today we went to pikes market complete with crazy seahawks fans, flying fish, mini doughnuts, and giant bread bowls filled with famous clam chowder. we've only lived in washington for 2 years, so i am still very much a tourist. i never tire of going downtown and exploring. we've been to pike place a hundred times, but i still get a kick out of it. i still like to watch the guys throw fish, i'm still willing  to stand in line, in the rain, for chowder. i still like to watch the street performers (especially the guy who plays the guitar, harmonica, tambourine, and sings all while hula hooping!!) i still like to walk down the alley of the gum wall, i am still amazed by the abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables and i will never tire of the rows and rows of gorgeous, fresh flower bouquets that only cost $15. seriously!? $15 !??! it's insane.

i am fully aware that i am a nerd, but i hope i never get bored of it. i hope i always see the charm and wonder of pike place. i hope it stays fun and exciting for as long as i live!! i want to stay blind to the fact that all the food is over priced, and that sometimes the streets smell like weed and urine. i hope we continue to visit the market often and that it stays a big part of our life, here in washington. even if it makes me a tourist and a nerd.

we had a great time, and grandma and grandpa will be terribly missed when they go home tomorrow.

go hawks!!

The Vanessa Floppy Hat // Mindy

This season I decided to step out of my style comfort box. And by that, I mean I am wearing the VANESSA FLOPPY WOOL HAT (in black) How fun are these? So chic and girly and what a fun way to completely change a look. Sometimes you want to wear a hat but you need something a little more dressy than a beanie. This does the trick! Even more perfect for the cold weather (and lets face it, more protection for the hair). Floppy hats just seem to top your outfit off nicely. I am in love. -Mindy

beautiful mukilteo

even through the grey, washington is undenyably beautiful in the winter. sometimes, you just have to bundle up, and get outside. especially on a day like yesterday. we love to go to our beach and watch the ferry boats, birds, and the occasional sea lion. it's actually pretty magical.
