cheesecake!

guys, can we talk about something tragic? it's about cheesecake.

when i was pregnant, 2+ years ago, i had strange food cravings, and even stranger food aversions.

my major cravings,  like "have to have it now, give it to me now, i might die and the world will stop spinning if i don't have it now" cravings were:

-orange juice
-watermelon
-really salty mashed potatoes
-broccoli (for breakfast)
-and eggs, eggs, eggs. i ate so many eggs.

my strange aversions, like "i'm gonna throw up in your face if i put that in my mouth" aversions were:

-almonds
-chocolate
-ice cream
-CHEESECAKE (especially cheesecake)

ok...now i know these things aren't that strange...but if you know me, this is strange. i have never liked orange juice, not even as a kid. i never loved eggs. they were just kind of there. i never disliked broccoli...but i never craved it in the mornings!? at one point, i was standing over the stove steaming broccoli at 5:30 am  (and i made myself wait till then, because it would have been weird to get up before 5:00) just chomping at the bit to sink my teeth into hot, steamed broccoli and cauliflower. i would lay awake in bed at 4:45 am waiting for it to "appropriate broccoli steaming time"

as for the aversions, i ate at least 3 servings of chocolate every day pre-pregnancy. i always had a chocolate stash in the house. i lovvvvved chocolate, and sweets and i really lovvvvved cheesecake!! hello....it's cheesecake!!

well...after baby came, after a few weeks, things went back to normal. i stopped eating broccoli for breakfast, i ate my baby weight in chocolate cadbury eggs, and i went back to disliking orange juice. (nasty beverage!! blah! and the pulp...what the hell!?)

but, the one thing that never came back to me, is cheesecake. i HATE the stuff. the thought of taking a bite makes my throat tight and my stomach turn. i can't eat it for the life of me. all flavors, all kinds...YUK YUK YUK!!!

isn't that sad??  who doesn't like cheesecake!? whaaaaa?
i know i should be glad...i have saved myself many-o-calorie by not partaking of cheesecake at parties, showers, weddings etc... but, i miss going to the cheesecake factory and spending 25 thousand hours staring at the cheesecake menu trying to choose which slice will be my heaven for the 5 seconds it would take me to inhale it. it's just not the same.

ok, ok...with that said... for those of you who to love a good cheesecake, and who would like to make some, my friend and co-contributor to the GYPSY THREADS BLOG  sheena, has a yummy (so i've been told) and simple recipe for a raspberry cheesecake!

check it out HERE and enjoy a slice for my former, pre-mama self!!

Simple Valentine Cheesecake // Sheena

It’s been a while since I’ve written anything for the blog, but I’m so excited to be back with a super easy, super yummy V-day dessert.  Now, when it comes to cooking and baking…I’m all about the easy.  So today I’m sharing a recipe for a raspberry cheesecake that you can literally make in 10 minutes.  What?!  Yes!
Here are the ingredients you will need-

1 oz package of cream cheese (softened to room temp)
½ cup of sugar
2 cups Cool Whip
Raspberry filling (or you could opt for fresh raspberries of you want to keep it light)
Graham cracker crust (I bought the pre-made one, but if you want to make your own, more power to ya!)
In a medium bowl, mix cream cheese and sugar on medium
Stir in Cool Whip
Pour into graham cracker crust
Top with filling or fresh raspberries
Refrigerate until ready to serve

enjoy! -sheena

odds & ends // sunday snow

sometimes sunday mornings are the stuff dreams are made of. the kind of dreams where you eat pumpkin pancakes, and stay in your sweats all day. oh yeah...that's the stuff.

yesterday was one of those dream days. we woke up to and old, cold friend. i forgot that i actually do like snow. well...in moderation. and on christmas. it definitely has it's charm, and it's been one of the things i miss about home. (the list is long lately)

it's pretty rare to see snow up here, especially snow that actually sticks around and is capable of being rolled into snowmen. the few times that i have seen snow flurries here, it has melted within hours and hasn't been more than and inch or two. so it was kind of a treat to wake up and see white instead of green. this is the most snow i've ever seen here, and the longest it's lasted.

i miss the quiet that snow brings. when we went outside this morning, it was silent. i love that.

anyway...it was a great day. it was a little slice of home. it was perfect.

miles style // go hawks!

so, in case you haven't heard, the seattle seahawks won the super bowl...and it's kind of a big deal. does that make us cooler now that we live in washington?? i'd like to think so...so please don't tell me otherwise. miles is completely obsessed with flags, especially his "go hawks flag" we waves it proudly and yells "go hawks go hawks go hawks!!!" --he has no clue. but it's hilarious and adorable because everything he does is brilliant, right?? (said the mom of every kid everywhere)
anyway... the whole town is wearing the blue and green (including us because we are really trying to make friends) and eating skittles....???
so here's milo's team sprit for the week...GO HAWKS!

* please ignore the smashed banana stuck to his face. it's just part of the package *
