Little Adventures

Just a little peek at my favorite way to spend time.
Miles is such a trooper. He loves helping me with my daily tasks, especially vacuuming and trips to the post office to ship GYPSY THREADS orders. He loves Ace Hardware store and he's more fascinated by flora than fauna. He asks me what the names of different plants are, and he likes to water the "suck-you-wents" on the porch.
He LOVES the Space Needle, and sometimes we take trips down town and just walk around the grounds. We did that just a few weeks ago, munched on grilled corn on the cob, danced to the Guatemalan band that always plays outside, met a creepy spiderman, and then, because it's Seattle, we got caught in the rain.

It was magic.

Embroidered Gardens

Our favorite thing happening this summer is Mexican style embroidered tops, tunics and dresses. Somehow it just screams "JOY!" The cotton is light and moveable to keep you cool, and the vibrant colors of flowers and vines give a cheerful detail.

Fresh Tomato & Ricotta Bruschetta

This time of year is simply the best for getting fresh fruits and vegetables from local farmers markets and festivals. It's so important to support local growers, bakers, and shop vendors. I love visiting the different small markets in the greater Seattle area and finding recipes to make using the produce I find.

Today I am sharing an easy summer bruschetta using fresh bread, cherry or grape tomatoes and ricotta cheese. It makes a great appetizer, or even lunch.

WHAT YOU NEED:

-1 BAGUETTE SLICED EVENLY (ABOUT 1/2 INCH THICK)
-EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL
-1 CUP RICOTTA CHEESE
-1/4 CUP BASIL LEAVES CHOPPED
-SALT & PEPPER
-2 PEELED GARLIC CLOVES SLICED IN HALF
-CHERRY OR GRAPE TOMATOES SLICED LENGTH WISE (ONE CARTON OR ABOUT 1 POUND)
-1 TSP. LEMON JUICE

WHAT YOU DO:

-Heat grill pan or frying pan to medium high. Drizzle olive oil over the sliced bread pieces on one side. Grill the bread in the pan oil side down for a few minutes until toasted. Remove from heat and place bread on a platter.

-In a bowl, mix together the ricotta cheese, 1/2 of the chopped basil, lemon juice, and 1/4 tsp. both salt and pepper. Stir till smooth, but the basil will look "choppy" -that's ok.

-Rub garlic cloves over the toasted side of the bread.

-In a separate bowl, toss together the tomatoes, remaining basil, 1/4 tsp. of both salt and pepper, 1 tbs. olive oil and a squeeze of lemon juice.

-Spread about a tbs. of the ricotta mixture over each piece of bread and top with the tomatoes and basil. Garnish with extra basil.

FRESH AND DELICIOUS! ENJOY!

4th of July

Happy 4th of July from our family to yours!!

3 years ago when we first moved to Seattle, we spent the 4th of July exploring the city. There was still so much we hadn't seen or done, and we randomly ended up at Woodland Park Zoo. Miles was only 4 months old...so he did not appreciate the zoo much, but I loved it! It's kind of become a tradition of ours to make our way through the city and to the zoo on Independence Day.

We also had a little GIVEAWAY on Instagram for these flag ball caps + some GYPSY THREADS gift cards! Thanks to everyone who participated!!

Hairspiration // Long Bob

My favorite hair style right now is the long bob, or "lob" if you're hip.
It looks young and fresh to chop off some length.
Lob, we love you.

Britts Picks

This week we are kicking off a new series, "BRITT'S PICKS" to share my favorite items in the shoppe each week. I am often asked how to wear something in the shoppe, or what to wear it with, so I thought this might be a good way to share some style ideas.

This week, my favorites are the AMELIE MEADOW BLOUSE, WIDE BRIM WOVEN HAT in coco, and the brand new JEREMY SATCHEL in marigold.

I love a simple and comfortable top. The Amelie Meadow top is light weight, and a flattering "blousey" fit. Perfect for these humid Pacific Northwest summer days. The colors of the wild flowers are bright against the clean white of the shirt. It's feminine and simple.

The hat and bag are perfect summer accessories. Functional and fashionable is always a winning combination. I have been living in my wide brim woven hat this summer. It's my favorite way to look like I got ready, when really I didn't. (it's great!)

SHOP FOR THESE PIECES NOW!

WIDE BRIM WOVEN HAT - sold out, but re-stocking soon!
